How Beach Chairs Lead to Bestsellers . . .
A few years ago, I noticed something interesting.
Right after Labor Day, when everyone laments the end of summer and shops for “school clothes” (even as grown adults), I would get a flurry of people interested in publishing a book.
Year after year this happened. Finally I figured out the pattern.
I call it the “beach chair effect.”
Whether you chilled out on a beach, patio, by a lake or pool, or even in your bed on a Saturday — summer often gives us a time to reflect.
Take a breath.
Get suddenly, sometimes disturbingly, un-busy.
After a few hours or days, our mind empties out of to-do lists and email drafts.
And then we consider what we WANT to do.
Maybe you dream of becoming a bestselling author and seeing your book in airports while you travel to your next TED talk. Or perhaps you really want to get your message and methodology out there to more people and see your book as a way to do that. And maybe a book has been on your mind for years but keeps being delegated to the bottom of your mental to-do list.
I get it. I understand because that’s what people tell me, September after September.
