When’s the Best Time in Your Business to Write a Book?

It depends!

That said, the very beginning — what I call zero/zero/zero (zero audience, zero clients and zero revenue) is not a great time to sit down and write a book. It’s also a terrible time to reach out to someone like me and work on a proposal or otherwise pursue a literary agent or publisher because everyone involved in traditional publishing is going to go tell you to build a platform.

This can be really discouraging, especially if you know your stuff. You may have a TON of experience and stories and wisdom to share, and that’s awesome. But what you don’t have is

proof of concept and knowing what your audience wants to hear. You don’t know which of those stories resonates . . . yet. You don’t know who your ideal client is . . . yet.
