I understand, because my own publishing journey started with something really, really small.
It was 2003, and I was sitting in a college English class with a pile of books on my desk. I remember it distinctly because I thought the professor was full of shit. (Still do.) Bored, I flipped over one of the books on my desk to look at its spine.
Simon & Schuster.
I flipped over another.
Random House.
I watched a lot of movies in college, and one of my favorites was Stepmom, with Julia Roberts and Susan Sarandon. (A total tear-jerker.) In that movie, Susan Sarandon worked at Random House. That was my aha moment. The books on my desk didn’t just magically appear.
There were companies that produced these books.
In New York. (My favorite place in the world, then and now.)
And people worked there.
That was the moment I decided to work in publishing.
