You, me and Dolly Parton
“Is that Dolly Parton?”
“I just love the picture you always have behind you.”
“I knew we were destined to work together when I saw Dolly.”
One framed picture in my office gets a lot of attention.
If you look at my website or ever get on a Zoom call with me . . . Dolly will be there too.
That’s because I freaking love — adore! — Dolly Parton.
When I was growing up in the ’90s, my impression of Dolly was that she was a joke.
But later I realized she did not give a fuck.
Dolly did what Dolly wanted to do, whether that was having big hair or fake boobs or dressing head-to-toe in rhinestones. I admire that. And when I learned more about her and listened to more of her songs, I realized that we have a lot in common.
We both know what it’s like to be made fun of for who we are and where we come from.
We’re both writers. (Did you know that Dolly has written over 3,000 songs?)
We’re both country girls who left home in pursuit of our dreams.
We’re both entrepreneurs.
